Streaming Queer: June 2025
Andrea Marks Joseph READ TIME: 11 MIN.
It's somehow already June, and we'll be outside for Pride Month and hot summer slays, but a good day of being gay always ends with something fun on TV! This month, streaming services are serving up equal parts heartfelt reality shows, documentaries about remarkable queer people, and reunions with our historical fiction comfort shows ("The Gilded Age" and "The Buccanneers.") And so we go back into the chaotic kitchen of "The Bear" and meet a K-pop girl group that sells out stadiums, then slays demons who have pivoted to becoming cutesy K-pop boyband idols so they can steal the souls of the fans.
This month's offering invites us to mix it up with niche streaming services, giving Crave and Revery a go for their groundbreaking, queer joy-filled, drag-centric reality shows. June brings a celebration of queer people whose determination made groundbreaking strides for us all: Olympian Tom Daley, trans icons April Ashley and Amanda Lear, and astronaut Dr. Sally Ride. We'll watch queer relationships unravel and end in either marriage or a mess in "The Ultimatum: Queer Love," while drag racing (car edition) show "Motorheads" has Michael Cimino, sapphic pining, and bisexual drama. And we're already so thirsty for the hot, sweaty new cast of Spanish athletes in "Olympio" – a new (inevitably horny) show from the producers of "Elite."
We've got life-saving drag brunches, the first streaming series entirely focused on drag kings, Kristen Stewart voicing a literal buoy who is desperate to become the YouTuber couple whose vlogs she watches, Cynthia Erivo hosting the Tony awards, and so much more. Happy Streaming!
"Drag Brunch Saved My Life" Season 1
"Take a seat. You're about to be fed." This fun new makeover show sees "Canada's Drag Race" winner Priyanka traveling around Canada, making restaurants all around the country queer! "Drag Brunch Saved My Life" follows drag queen and pop star Priyanka as she meets the people running restaurants that are in urgent need of advice, support, and revitalization. Each restaurant renovation ends with a drag brunch performance, with the aim of inspiring business owners to lean into welcoming their local queer community and make bank while doing so. If you're into business rescue and renovation shows, and you know that queering things will always make them better, this is the show for you!
"Drag Brunch Saved My Life" Season 1 is now streaming on Crave.
"Motorheads" Season 1
You may have seen the viral photos of shirtless Zac (Michael Cimino) in this new series, which is also worth tuning in for for its unexpected queerness and heartwarming undercurrent. In this show about boys stealing cars and challenging each other's egos, Zac's twin sister, Caitlyn (Melissa Collazo), is the head mechanic and head-spinning hot girl causing sapphic chaos. Zac is doing it (illegally racing cars, starting fights with jocks, making reckless deals with dangerous men) for a girl (Mia Healey, who played a lesbian in "The Wilds") while his casually, openly bi twin sister turns local girls' heads is one of the most captivating, suspenseful storylines.
Both twins are secretly hoping this move to the town where their parents grew up will help them connect with their dad, a racing legend who disappeared after a widely publicized bank robbery car chase before they were born. While it's filled with high school events and Rust Belt small-town history, "Motorheads" is equally passionate about car restoration and street racing, complete with action-packed flashbacks to the iconic car chase as we learn that the parents (Ryan Phillippe, Nathalie Kelley, and Matt Lanter among them) have been keeping huge secrets that their kids are destined to repeat.
"Motorheads" Season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video.
"Tom Daley: 1.6 Seconds"
Titled for the breathtakingly brief amount of time in which a diver must perfect their twists and turns, mastering every movement from launching off the 10m platform to their graceful entrance into the water, "1.6 Seconds" is an intimate documentary that explores the life of out British Olympian, husband, and father Tom Daley. The documentary features candid videos from Daley's family archives (videos filmed by his late father when Daley was a teenage diver with Olympic hopes) and includes interviews with Daley's mother, husband, and first coach, exploring the road "from Olympic prodigy to national treasure." This journey – from his Olympic debut at Beijing 2008 at the age of 14, to the strength in his legacy-shaping return to diving at Paris 2024 – includes remarkable athletic triumphs and failures, Daley grieving the death of his father, the pressure of being a public figure, coming out, and the knowledge that he has inspired millions by being so open with the world.
"Tom Daley: 1.6 Seconds" is now streaming on Olympics.com.
"Yuri!!! on Ice" Season 1
Whether you've watched this groundbreaking gay figure-skating anime before, or you'll finally be checking into the emotional adventure because it's more accessible, now is the perfect time to tune into "Yuri!!! On Ice." (You'll need to turn your captions on for the trailer above, but you can watch it subbed or dubbed on Hulu.) There's nothing quite like the rewarding rollercoaster ride of following an underdog athlete's journey to reach the height of their talent and achieve the peaks in their career, and this anime series is no exception.
It follows Yuri, who went back to his hometown after a crushing defeat while representing Japan at the figure skating Grand Prix. Yuri is struggling to imagine himself returning to the sport and feels ready to retire, but meeting his hero, Russian world champion Viktor – who sees something special in Yuri's spirit and talent, offering to be his coach and mentor – revives Yuri's championship hopes. Their coaching agreement becomes a passionate partnership, and a romantic love story unfolds between the two. It's all incredibly charming and deeply emotionally-investable, with playful humor and rival athlete banter all along the way to Yuri's triumphant return to history-making greatness. You'll have the empowering theme song stuck in your head for weeks, and the enthusiastic athletes will have your whole heart.
"Yuri!!! on Ice" Season 1 is now streaming on Hulu.
"78th Annual Tony Awards"
Hosted by Tony Award-winner and queer "Wicked" star Cynthia Erivo (who is an Oscar away from achieving EGOT status), the "78th Annual Tony Awards" ceremony returns to Radio City Music Hall after several years away from the legendary venue. The event has announced a performance lineup of creative powerhouses, several of them queer and all of them jaw-droppingly talented. The awards show will celebrate some of the year's most exciting new musicals and revivals – "Just in Time," "Death Becomes Her," and "Buena Vista Social Club" among them – as well as honoring the 10th anniversary of "Hamilton" by reuniting the original Broadway cast "in an unprecedented moment for Broadway and fans worldwide." Darren Criss and Renée Elise Goldsberry will host a live "Tony Awards" pre-show with exclusive content on Pluto TV.
"78th Annual Tony Awards" premieres June 8 on Paramount+.
"Love Me"
"Life is people, with a dog, eating ice cream," says voiceover-Kristen Stewart in the trailer, and honestly that's kinda true. But her character wants more than that; she wants to fall in love and feel alive in a way that mirrors the human lives she's seen in digital archives. The "Love Me" filmmakers blend live-action and animation, compiling footage from our present (including YouTuber couple vlogs and David Attenborough-narrated nature documentaries) as examples of humanity's legacy, to tell a story of what it means to be human.
"Love Me" is an alternative, post-apocalyptic romance between a buoy (queer actor and director, Kristen Stewart) and a satellite (Steven Yeun), who meet online long after humans have been gone from planet Earth. This thought-provoking film follows their connection, and the virtual life they build together "with only the internet as their guide," learning about love and life's meaning from what we left behind.
"Love Me" premieres June 16 on Paramount+.
"Sally"
"Sally" is a documentary about Dr. Sally Ride, the first American woman to go to space. A voiceover in the trailer tells us that Ride "was the most famous person on Earth for a while. It was really hard because she was very private." The woman being interviewed – her life partner for 27 years – continues to explain that "Sally risked everything to make history. But telling the world about us was a risk she just couldn't take."
This film sets out to fill in the parts of Ride's life unknown to the history books: "Revealing the romance and sacrifices of their 27 years together, Sally's life partner, Tam O'Shaughnessy, tells the full story of this complicated and iconic astronaut for the first time." From National Geographic Documentary Films, directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Cristina Costantini, this film tells the story of how "Space changed for all time when Sally went up," exploring the impact of her outspoken feminist nature on the opportunities for women in science, and the cost of her public achievements on her private life.
"Sally" premieres June 17 on Hulu.
"The Buccaneers" Season 2
With a trailer set to an emotional, empowering edition of Chappell Roan's "Good Luck Babe," this thrilling series made of epic romances and fierce, ambitious, fun-loving young women makes it known that this season will exceed our expectations for following up its first season. "Now the Buccaneers are no longer the invaders - England is their home. In fact they're practically running the place... All of the girls have been forced to grow up and now have to fight to be heard, as they wrestle with romance, lust, jealousy, births, and deaths... themes consuming all women of any age, no matter what year it is. Last time we got a taste of England. This time we're in for a veritable feast."
We are especially excited for more of trans actress Josie Totah's heart-swelling performance as Mabel, and for her character's sweet, but painfully secretive, sapphic relationship with Honoria (Mia Threapleton). Leighton Meester joins the cast this season, playing a very important role rumored to be the mysterious mother we've all been wondering about.
"The Buccaneers" Season 2 premieres June 18 on AppleTV+.
"Olympo" Season 1
In this new series from the producers of "Elite," a group of hot Spanish athletes – the best in the country, training at a performance center together – show us that "betrayal is a team sport." This series will "delve into the sporting, emotional and life adventures of a group of elite young athletes who will have to test how far they are willing to go to achieve their goals."
"Olympo" follows the high-stakes drama when Amaia, captain of the national synchronized swimming team "who demands only the best from herself and does not allow any mistakes," is shocked to learn that her best friend is among a group of athletes who are "inexplicably improving their performance" as we watch them push their bodies to the limit. The amount of dripping sweat, intertwined bodies, and competitive sexual energy in the teaser trailer makes it clear we'll get the truly steamy shenanigans we've been missing since "Elite" ended, and we know these creators would never make a show without a collective of hot gays.
"Olympo" Season 1 premieres June 20 on Netflix.
"KPop Demon Hunters"
Already going viral for its surprisingly camp trailer, "KPop Demon Hunters" is a huge slay because it leans into the absurdity of the KPop entertainment industry and offers up the subversive brilliance of young women weaponizing their stardom to destroy demons. "When K-pop superstars Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) aren't selling out stadiums, they're using their secret identities as demon hunters to protect their fans from ever-present supernatural danger. Together, they must face their biggest threat – an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise."
Queer actor Joel Kim Booster is in this cast, and the film's soundtrack features an original song performed by Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung of TWICE. The top comment on this trailer says, "As if KPop idols aren't overworked enough, now they have to hunt demons too," and while that is hilariously true, we will absolutely be tuning in for the animated idols in action.
"KPop Demon Hunters" premieres June 20 on Netflix.
"The Gilded Age" Season 3
We'll always remember when Carrie Coon thanked "the gays" for ensuring that "The Gilded Age" was renewed. "We would not have a season three without you," she said. All the leading ladies (Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Taissa Farmiga) are back to give us more drama and intrigue, so we're here to watch and keep it going for many more!
This season of the Emmy-winning period drama seems to be focused on the various families' views of marriage, whether for opportunity or for love, and, of course, power. The official logline for this season reads: "Following the Opera War, the old guard is weakened and the Russells stand poised to take their place at the head of society. Bertha sets her sights on a prize that would elevate the family to unimaginable heights while George (Morgan Spector) risks everything on a gambit that could revolutionize the railroad industry – if it doesn't ruin him first.
"Across the street, the Brook household is thrown into chaos as Agnes (Baranski) refuses to accept Ada's (Nixon) new position as lady of the house. Peggy (Benton) meets a handsome doctor from Newport whose family is less than enthusiastic about her career. As all of New York hastens toward the future, their ambition may come at the cost of what they truly hold dear." All that and tons of new characters who will shift dynamics and shake things up!
"The Gilded Age" Season 3 premieres June 22 on Max.
"King of Drag" Season 1
The first entirely drag king-focused show on a streaming network, reality competition series "King of Drag" is hosted by iconic drag king Murray Hill ("Somebody Somewhere"), while Sasha Velour and Lisa Rinna join Hill's "Somebody Somewhere" costars on the judging panel. Ten drag kings will compete through a six-episode competition that highlights some of the world's best drag king performers
"King of Drag" Season 1 premieres June 22 on Revry.
"The Bear" Season 4
With their new restaurant, The Bear, officially open to the public and catering for a much more elegant, sophisticated experience than their humble beginnings, the entire ensemble cast of "The Bear" returns to charm, delight, and frustrate us all over again. This season, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (queer actor Ayo Edebiri), and their crew must figure out how to find balance, calm, and consistency in their systems to make their restaurant truly successful. Carmy must somehow unlearn romanticizing the stress and perpetual fight that has always come with his time in restaurant kitchens. Everyone on the team keeps pushing forward in their personal pursuits as they work together to achieve harmony in the kitchen. Of course it's going to be chaotic; of course life's gonna get in the way for all of them; of course we'll be there, leaning forward in our seats ready to say, "Yes, chef!" We're also so ready to be served surprise guest stars and delicious celeb cameos.
"The Bear" Season 4 premieres June 25 on Hulu.
"The Ultimatum: Queer Love" Season 2
Another season of the queer chaos that is this "relationship experiment" brings together six sapphic couples at a crossroads to decide if they'll get married, break up and go home single, or move on with someone they met during this experience. One partner in each couple is ready to settle down, while the other isn't clear about where they want the relationship to go. It's truly an ultimatum situation, with the added spice of temptation – because part of the show's process is that each individual must pick someone in the group of women and non-binary people (someone who is not their partner) to date and move into a "trial marriage" with before going back to live with their partner again. Netflix tells us to "get ready for parasailing dates and poolside confrontations" in this Miami-set season, which is sure to be filled with scandal.
"The Ultimatum: Queer Love" Season 2 premieres June 25 on Netflix.
