"RuPaul's Drag Race" queen and "Rent: Live" star Valentina came out as a trans woman in a May 14 Instagram post - the day of her 34th birthday. Ecstatic fans greeted her news with open arms.
"For some time now I've been in transition, I've been doing it privately but today I wanted to open and share with you all," the performer said in the post.
Valentina came out as nonbinary in 2019. Her newest disclosure was, she suggested, partly the result of expectations from others.
"Along the way I've felt pressure to come forward so I've decided and wanted to take today to declare myself as a transgender woman," the "Drag Race" and "All Stars" alum explained.
"I welcome all the love, support and protection from my dear fans. Thank you so much 🏳️⚧️💕".
Valentina repeated the message in Spanish below the English version.
Fans and fellow drag artists spoke the language of love in reply.
"Happy Birthday lady! I love you so much!" declared "Drag Race" runner-up and "Survival of the Thickest" actor Peppermint.
"Happy birthday beautiful 💖🏳️⚧️," posted fellow "Drag Race" alum, "All Stars" 6 winner, and Las Vegas drag performer Kylie Sonique Love.
"All Stars" 5 champion Shea Couleé echoed the sentiments, writing, "Happy birthday! And congratulations on becoming more and more yourself with every single day! 🏳️⚧️"
"Happy birthday, baby!" wrote drag artist Chanel. "Welcome to the All Dolls circle🏳️⚧️🤍".
Other celebs piled on with greetings of their own.
"Happy Birthday beautiful angel!" posted out actor Johnny Sibilly.
"Feliz cumpleaños mi vida ✨💐 [Happy birthday, my life]," posted makeup influencer Rodrigo Quiel.
Gay Twitter was just as jubilant.
"You're perfect You're beautiful ❤️," one fan tweeted, while another chimed in with, "God she's so beautiful, she's practically glowing. I'm so happy for her".
"She is gorgeous!!! Congratulations!! 🥰✨💖," wrote another.
"'RuPaul's Drag Race' fans were first introduced to Valentina on season 9 of the hit MTV series," People Magazine noted. "Although she was eliminated, she won that season's Miss Congeniality contest."
After noting Valentina's sixth-place finish in "All Stars" 4, People noted that the drag icon "later starred as Angel Dumott Schunard, the HIV-positive drag queen, in 'Fox's Rent: Live' in 2019 alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Jordan Fisher, Brennin Hunt, Tinashe, Brandon Victor Dixon, Kiersey Clemons and Mario."
