Watch: Gus Kenworthy Tours Tokyo: 'Very Long Drive To Get Me a Bubble Tea'
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Gus Kenworthy may not be appearing in these Olympics – his sports are part of the Winter Games – but NBC hired the hunky, out Olympian to do features for the current Tokyo Games.
In the first, Kenworthy and Rutledge Wood, while in quarantine, take a trip around Tokyo.
Kenworthy's trip to Tokyo marks the first time he has attended the Summer Games, NBC Chicago.com reports as part of a series, titled "Freestyle with Gus Kenworthy."
"Now, for the first time ever, I'm coming to the Summer Games. Join me as I take in the most unique Olympics in history," Kenworthy said in opening the segment. Because of quarantine regulations – as Tokyo is currently under quarantine with only 23% of the population inoculated with a vaccine – the pair was masked and not allowed to leave the car.
En route, they are impressed with the architecture and the fact that they haven't "seen a single piece of trash or any litter."
When asked if he is able to tour the sites of the Winter Games when he is competing, Kenworthy answered, "No, I'm kind of used to traveling to a place and then going from the airport to the hotel and doing training and competing."
"So it's nice to be able to actually explore a city and get a chance to see it even if we can't get out of the car," Kenworthy adds with a laugh. As the ride concludes, he quips, "Very long drive to get me a bubble tea."
