Tom Goss Plays Boston Sept. 24 in Support of Gay Retreat Center Easton Mountain

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Boston area fans of out singer-songwriter Tom Goss and of Easton Mountain, a gay retreat center in upstate New York, will have a chance on Sept. 24 to enjoy the musical stylings of the one while supporting the other.

Easton Mountain offers a year-round slate of workshops, themed weeks, and other programs and events. Upcoming events on the Easton Mountain calendar include a shamanic retreat, a weekend-long singles event, and a "Professional Coach Training Program for Gay Men." Other programs focus on safe and healthy touch, relationships, and community building.

"Tom is a member of Easton Mountain's extended community and has supported its mission for several years," noted Raul Castanon, the president of Easton's board. "Proceeds from the event will provide scholarships for participants in need and support the development of programs LGBTQ Youth, Latino and African American communities, and Men in Recovery."

Goss is widely known on the GLBT music scene for his albums and self-produced music videos, which run the gamut from light and lively - as with the 2013 video for his original song "Bears" - to more reflective and socially conscious efforts, such as his re-framing of Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacher Man" as a romantic drama between two male teens from a deeply religious and homophobic faith community. The 2016 video delivered a powerful and uplifting message to counter the suicide rate of GLBT youth, which some studies suggest is up to five times higher than for heterosexual teens.

Most recently, Goss trailblazed into fresh territory by creating a music video with multiple viewer-controlled outcomes. The video starts at a party and then follows different romantic possibilities with both men and women, and is set to Goss' song "Click."

Goss has maintained a relationship with Easton Mountain for years, performing occasionally at the resort.

"Easton Mountain has been instrumental in helping countless gay men build friendships and realize their true potential," Goss said. "I, like many others, have been moved by their outreach and mission. It is always an honor to work alongside them."

Goss' most recent album is "What Doesn't Break" from 2016. That album features the tracks "All My Life" and "More Than Temporary," both of which Goss made into videos, as well as seven other tracks. "More Than Temporary" tells the tale of a budding romance while celebrating the longevity of committed LGBT relationships that have endured decades of judicial and social hostility.

Goss will perform at First Parish Dorchester, located at 10 Parish Street in Dorchester, at 6 pm on Sunday, Sept. 24. Tickets cost $20 each, and the price includes refreshments. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase separately. Tickets are available at http://tomgossmusic.com/shop/boston
