AIDS Fund Philly Kicks Off Walk With Timeline

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

On Friday, September 11 at 11 a.m. at the corner of 18th & Walnut Streets, at the entrance to Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, the AIDS Fund will kick off their efforts leading up to their 29th Annual AIDS Walk Philly, to be held on October 18.

For 29 years, AIDS Walk Philly has raised funds for HIV/AIDS service organizations in the Greater Philadelphia Region, and on Sunday, October 18, 2015, the 29th Annual AIDS Walk Philly & AIDS Run Philly continues the fight. One in four new HIV infections is among youth ages 13-24. Of those new infections, almost 60 percent do not know they have the virus.

Philadelphians can make a difference in the fight against HIV and AIDS by participating in AIDS Walk Philly, which will bring together nearly 15,000 people to raise money for HIV prevention education, public awareness, and HIV care services here in the Greater Philadelphia region.

To emphasize the long history of HIV/AIDS, AIDS Fund has created a large photographic and text timeline of over 30 years of the epidemic. The "1981-Until It's Over..." AIDS Timeline will be on display at the kick-off event.

The AIDS Fund grant program supports organizations in the Philadelphia Region that provide AIDS and HIV-related services, education, and prevention including increasing public awareness of HIV/AIDS issues.

The 29th Annual AIDS Walk Philly is sponsored by Merck, Medi-Dose/EPS, ViiV, Wells Fargo, Elwyn Specialty Care, Frito-Lay, PGN, and Fairmount Park. Participants can pick up registration information at any Center City Starbucks or register online at aidswalkphilly.org. AIDS Fund is the producer of AIDS Walk Philly, GayBINGO and other fundraising and awareness programs throughout the year.
