Prime Video Unveils First Look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft as 'Tomb Raider' Series Production Begins

Amazon MGM Studios announced the commencement of production on its highly anticipated Tomb Raider series for Prime Video, releasing the first official image of Sophie Turner in character as the iconic archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. The photograph depicts Turner in a practical, grounded outfit featuring a tank top, harness, holsters, and sunglasses, evoking the character's classic silhouette without exaggeration.
The series, developed from the beloved Tomb Raider video game franchise, follows Lara Croft on her dangerous quests for lost treasures and ancient mysteries. Sophie Turner, known for her roles in Game of Thrones and the X-Men films, stars as Croft. "I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft, "Turner said. "She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got." She added in a press release, “I have been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara. She has always seemed incredibly brave in a male-dominated world. She’s a formidable female role model! ”
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, acclaimed for Fleabag, serves as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge, with Jonathan Van Tulleken directing and executive producing. "Tomb Raider is full of iconic characters, "Waller-Bridge explained. "I am thrilled to have been able to bring some of my favorite characters and those beloved by fans to the screen, while also introducing some new villains of our own making. This cast exceeds my wildest dreams!"
The ensemble cast blends canon figures from the games with original characters. Jason Isaacs portrays Lara’s uncle, Atlas DeMornay; Bill Paterson plays Winston, the Croft family butler; and Martin Bobb-Semple is Zip, Lara’s tech support. Sigourney Weaver joins as Evelyn Wallis, a powerful figure seeking to exploit Lara’s talents, alongside Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Celia Imrie, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, and August Wittgenstein.
