Review: Chose Your Own Adventure With the Skillfully Articulate 'DC Showcase - Batman: Death In The Family'

Robin will die... ...because The Joker wants his ultimate revenge on his greatest foe, in the latest DC Showcase Animated Shorts "Batman: Death in the Family" available now in Blu-ray and Digital from Warner Bros. Animated Films and DC. Based on the best-selling comic event of the 1980s that encouraged the fans to decide the fate of the Caped Crusader's sidekick, the animated adaptation of the tale gives the viewer three possible outcomes to the fate of Robin, Jason Todd, the second hero to fight at The Batman's side.

Warner Bros. Animated Films and DC continue the tradition of bringing to the screen many of their comics' universe most engaging storylines. The Death in the Family and the inevitable rise of the Red Hood are among some of the most iconic moments from DC, and this animated movie captures that moment! Cleverly combining the elements from the comic and the previously released animated movie "Batman: Under the Red Hood," this DC Showcase Animated perfectly pays homage to the spirit of the comic event.

Dominating across media, the animated adventures set in the DC Universe are among some of the skillfully articulate animated films on the market and can easily be compared in their quality and narrative approach to blockbuster movies made for the big screen. Lately, DC has taken advantage of the more adult orientated themes to adapt to animation and cultivate their growing audience.

The Blu-ray disc is the only way to experience the "choose your own adventure" feature that is the cornerstone of this release; using your remote control you can decide the direction the story takes — or rewatch and choose a different outcome for Robin. The package also includes the additional DC Showcase Animated Shorts of the 2019/2020 season that put the spotlight on other DC Comics characters from across the imprint's extensive history of publication. Sgt. Rock, Adam Strange, The Phantom Stranger and Death all get stories of their own to boot!

Available on Blu-ray and Digital, the interactive movie feature is best experienced on the Blu-ray Disc. The Digital HD option allows the audience to view each version of the films in its entirety, with the alternate ending of their choice — so it's like watching the film, over again, three times, but with an all-new climax — either way, it's still the fate of Jason Todd that's hanging in the balance. DC Showcase Animated Shorts "Batman: Death in the Family" Interactive Movie is a worthy addition to any diehard fan's collection, but be warned: this is Rated R and not for kids!

'DC Showcase - Batman: Death In The Family' is available October 13 on Blu-ray and Digital.
