Disney's live-action "The Little Mermaid" may have found its Prince Eric in singer Harry Styles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The former One Direction member is in negotiations to play the prince and star alongside R&B singer Halle Bailey who will play Ariel. Directed by Rob Marshall, the new version of the Disney classic may also star Melissa McCarthy as evil octopus Ursula, Jacob Tremblay as the talking fish Flounder and Awkwafina as sassy seagull Scuttle.

It should be noted that Prince Eric did not perform any songs in Disney's 1988 animated version of "The Little Mermaid."

The casting of Bailey has caused a stir online with the hashtag #NotMyAriel taking off on Twitter. Those using the hashtag object to a black woman portraying the red-headed mermaid princess of the animated film.

This isn't Styles' first big film role. He appeared in Christopher Nolan's Oscar-nominated World War II drama "Dunkirk" in 2017.
